TSC: Teachers In C4, C5, D1, D2, D3 & D4 Job Groups Poised For Salary Hikes This July 2022!

The National Teachers’ Employer ( TSC) is planning to increase the salaries of several teachers by the end of this July.
TSC has been purposing to effect the salary hike to teachers who are serving under permanent and pensionable terms. These changes in the teachers’ salaries will not benefit tutors serving on Internship/Contract terms.
It is not lost on many that the 2021-2025 Teachers’ CBA that was signed by the Teachers’ Unions ( KUPPET & KNUT) has not been successfully reviewed even after Several meetings of these Unions with the Teachers’ Employer.
Many times this non-monetary CBA has been taunted as the ‘Maternity CBA’  perhaps because the only benefit it gave the teachers was the prolonged maternity leave of 120 days and zero salary increment!
However, it is all not lost, for TSC and KNUT have revealed that there may be some salary changes for the Kenyan teachers after they include a salary component in the current CBA after the 9th August 2022 general elections.
This according to the Unions, can only be factored in, in the July 2023 budget.
The Teachers Service Commission has however confirmed that despite the lack of agreement with the Unions, some job groups of teachers are poised for salary hikes this July:
These are C4, C5, D1, D2, D3, and D4. It is confirmed that these six job groups consisting of school administrators will receive salary increments together with all the accrued arrears this July 2022.
It is confirmed by the employer, that these teachers are eligible for the salary hike because they have not reached their maximum salary points.
According to the CBA  2017-2021 pay banding, job grades C4, C5, D1, D2, D3, and D4 are yet to reach the maximum salary points. The aforementioned grades will have their salary points extended with effect from the 1st of July 2022.
Job groups B5, C1, C2, C3, and D5 will not be given any pay hikes because they are not eligible for any. This is by the 2017-2021 CBA. TSC has spelled out that teachers in these groups did attain their maximum salary point thus the status quo!
“Grades B5, C1,  C2, C3, and D5 have reached the maximum salary points provided for in the banding by the completion of the cycle for CBA 2017-2021, ” Nancy Macharia, the TSC CEO observed.
