The Kenyan church’s belly exposed following Covid-19 pandemic, find out why
Christianity teaches that its believers must act in a moral way. This has to do with being kind to others like helping the needy around them. The church is a community of people who believe in the same dogma of worship. They are referred to as brethren- brothers and sisters who have been joined in Christ to be one. It is natural therefore that the church should and must spearhead programs aimed at helping fellow Christians who could be in need! This is as stipulated in the good book(Matthew 25:35-36)
“ For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me”
However this has not been the case in modern times. Those entrusted with the role of shepherding the sheep safely to Christ are the same individuals who have turned out to be savage exploiters. These con artists and gospel charlatans have used the pulpits to enrich themselves crazy by siphoning cash from the unsuspecting believers. We have all witnessed some of these so-called pastors peddle prayers and miracles for huge sums of money. Is “panda mbegu” a common phrase in our places of worship?
It is no wonder the so-called prosperity gospel is a common denominator in our Sunday and the true Sabbath sermons! The believers are coerced to give for them to receive from the lord. ‘The hand that giveth is blessed than the hand that receiveth’ has always hang loosely on the lips of these gospel con artists. Is it surprising that some men of the cloth are asking the state to consider reopening the churches in these deadly times? Is it not clear that they are missing the Sunday offering?
They have made the church a thriving profitable business. They have amassed immense riches from the churches literary, harvesting where they did not sow. They dwell in expanse palatial homes and are driven in the top of the range cars. Their offsprings study abroad in private exclusive schools and colleges where they pay top dollar without breaking a sweat! It is indeed mind-boggling that some do have private jets in a country where some part of the populace dies of hunger! Is this Christ-like?
Anyway, the church has been receiving so much from its congregation for too long. It is time it reciprocated! ( kurudisha mkono).
We expect the church top leadership to organize pulling of financial resources together from all churches in the country in a bid to acquire the vital Covid 19 treatment pieces of equipment like the costly ventilators.
Our news headlines should be something like this ‘The Top Leadership of all Nairobi Pentecostal Churches Raise 200 Million Kenya Shillings in a bid to Fight Covid 19! Wouldn’t this be Christ-like? Yes I dare say that the role of the church is to come through for the needy and vulnerable in the society especially in such trying moments!
